Dr. Karin Langenberg is an accomplished physician-scientist with dual expertise in medicine and research. She was trained in pediatric oncology as well as clinical pharmacology, holding both an MD and a PhD. Dr. Langenberg has dedicated their career to advancing precision medicine, particularly in the field of pediatric oncology through global innovative collaborations.


As a clinician, Dr. Langenberg has provided compassionate care to young patients facing cancer, witnessing firsthand the challenges of tailoring treatments to individual needs during subspecialty training at The Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, Canada. Their commitment to improving patient outcomes led them to pursue a PhD, focusing on precision medicine at the lab of Professor Jan Molenaar at the Princess Máxima Center in Utrecht, the Netherlands. Dr. Langenberg has pioneered the use of patient-derived models, including organoids and 2D cultures, to identify functional biomarkers for personalized cancer therapy within the precision medicine program iTHER.

In addition to their clinical and research roles, Dr. Langenberg actively contributes to the community. They have organized conferences bridging functional and genomic precision medicine, fostering collaboration among experts. Dr. Langenberg's vision aligns with SFPM’s mission: to accelerate the adoption of functional assays in cancer care, ultimately benefiting patients worldwide.
